CALLING ALL EFFORD YOUNG PEOPLE!!

So we can start to improve facilities for young people in Efford we want to develop a Heart of Efford Youth Partnership. It will work alongside the Heart of Efford Community Partnership. It will be run by a Committee elected by young people in the community.  This election will take place at the HECP Celebration being held at Plymview Primary School on 20 th January, 12-4pm . What is a Heart of Efford Youth Partnership?

· It will be up to the elected Youth Partnership Committee Members to decide exactly how the Youth Partnership works but it will be set up to work alongside the HECP Committee in developing projects.

· It will work in partnership with other organisations to bring about positive change to Efford and contribute to the regeneration of Efford.

· The Youth Partnership will consist of all young people who live in Efford who will elect a Committee to represent them.

Possible Youth Partnership aim and objectives:

· To provide a focus for young people in Efford to get involved in shaping the future of Efford

· To link and work alongside the main HECP and to get young people's voices heard

· To influence decisions being made

· To ensure that young people in Efford are at the centre of change in Efford and across the City

The Youth Partnership is being developed and will be supported by Plymouth City Council's Youth Service, Regeneration Team, Efford Youth and Community Centre and the Heart of Efford Community Partnership.

Why a Youth Partnership?

· HECP is working hard to make change happen to improve resident's quality of life in Efford - we need to make sure that young people are involved in this. A youth Partnership will help bring Efford Young People together to work with the HECP.

How to get involved

· If you are interested in the Youth Partnership and want to find out more or want to be nominated for election then please contact either Youth Development Worker Wendy Brown at the Efford Youth Centre on 776853 or Efford Regeneration Officer Debbie Burton at Plymouth City Council on 306521.

We want to encourage young people (under the age of 18) who live in Efford to come forward to help us with our work. Experience is not necessary all you need is a commitment to make things better for young people in Efford. Training and support will be provided.

NOMINATION FORMS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FROM 2ND JANUARY 2007 . DEADLINE FOR RETURN IS 12TH JANUARY 2007 .

ELECTION WILL TAKE PLACE AT CELEBRATION ON 20TH JANUARY 2007 . PLYMVIEW PRIMARY 12 - 4PM .

Projecting Plymouth Change Challenge Sessions

CHANGE CHALLENGE sessions are 2-hour or half-day creative workshops available for anyone aged between 5 and 25 who is interested in submitting an idea to Projecting Plymouth. They are available for individuals or groups (max 20 per group). The sessions should be inspiring, challenging and, hopefully, fun!

The aims of the sessions are:

•  To explore the participant(s)' feelings about Plymouth – likes, dislikes, hopes and fears

•  To encourage the participant(s) through practical facilitation to identify something they would like to change in Plymouth

•  To challenge the participant(s) to question their ideas, to enable them to fully investigate the possibilities for how they could change something in Plymouth

•  To help the participant(s) develop a practical proposal for how they could make that change, with a view to submitting that proposal to Projecting Plymouth

If the participant(s) already have an idea but need assistance in creatively developing it to a point where they feel ready to submit their proposal, that will be the focus of the session.

The CHANGE CHALLENGE sessions will use a variety of creative techniques (dependent on the practitioner delivering the session) to facilitate this process. The practitioner leading the session will work with the participant(s) to explore different forms and methods which they could use to make their idea happen.

The participant(s) will also receive support and advice on how they could present their idea.

The practitioner will have resources to facilitate this session, which will include a box of equipment (digital camera, flipchart paper, pens, other materials) and a CD ROM with a variety of images and ideas relating to Plymouth for use as an inspiration and discussion tool (in Powerpoint format, TBC).

Requirements

Group size – maximum 20. Sessions for smaller groups and 1-to-1 sessions are available.

Space – the sessions must take place in a public space (e.g. school, youth club). If the participant(s) have access to a space they should inform Creative Partnerships when they request a session. If they do not have access to a space they should inform us so we are able to book one.

Computer – although not essential it would be very useful to have access to a computer, preferably with internet connection. This is in order to make use of the CD ROM resource, and for further research if necessary. The computer will need Powerpoint to run the CD ROM.

To book a session

Call 01752 225806 or email melanie.scaffold@creative-partnerships.com to request a session. You will be given a provisional time based on your and the practitioner's availability. After contacting the practitioner we will then confirm this time with you.

If the participant(s) have any particular requirements, or have a specific idea which they need help developing, this should be stated when booking a session.

There are a limited amount of sessions available between 12 February and 1 March 2007, available on a first-come first-served basis.
