Efford Take A Part

"Possibility is not a luxury". Judith Butler

Efford began to involve art in its regeneration in 2006. Originally introduced by architects and urbanist Shillam & Smith, to consult with the people of Efford on developments around Torridge Way, art and artists have become part of the ongoing process of regeneration and growth across Efford.

Efford Take A Part is a partnership programme by the Heart of Efford Community Partnership, Neighborhood Regeneration Officer for Plymouth City Council, Community Services Directorate, SWRDA, Artist Jayne Murray and Plymouth Arts Centre.

"Artists tend to communicate differently and see things from a different perspective, which can overcome barriers and offer quite different (and sometimes challenging) insights." Michael Bridgwater, HECP member, Efford resident.

The most important thing to the HECP was that the artists began by listening to the people of Efford.

Efford’s art programme employs a process led approach to the arts, believing experience to be as important as a product.

"Artists can help unexpected information to become visible and to tease out alternative readings of places" Cleo Broda artist

"The art programme has raised expectations of what can be achieved" Kath Hancock, Efford Resident and HECP chair.

The art programme aims to work with what is important to the people of Efford and unique about the place.

Because it’s not been done doesn't mean it can’t be done
